London singer-songwriter Reuben Aziz has released the deluxe edition of his debut project, ‘how did we end up here?’.
‘how did we end up here’ was first unveiled in September last year, and since then Aziz has gone from strength to strength. Aziz’ On The Radar freestyle went viral, he performed an acclaimed headline show at The Grace alongside fellow next-gen risers Proph and Odzmoney, and supported Artemas on their UK and European tour, which saw him perform live acoustic renditions of his discography and covers.
The deluxe edition features the Stormzy co-signed ‘Stick Around’ – evoking Mk.gee’s bruised, moonlit alt-soul – recent ‘Always Come Back’, which peels back the layers of Reuben’s personal life, alternative outro ‘Part 2’ and the sombre closer ‘More’.
“The deluxe has been coming for a long time,” Aziz says. “We had a shortlist of 50 songs going into this, but we always knew ‘Stick Around’ would be at the centre of it, considering the fans have been waiting so long for it. I’m grateful we got past the initial sampling issue. ‘More’ is the first song I made after the hype of ‘find u’ so it’s a bit of a full circle moment and nice way to finish the project.”
Southampton-born, London-based Reuben Aziz is a self-taught vocalist and guitar player who began writing music at ten and producing at fourteen. He cites Tupac, The Fugees, and DMX as his earliest inspirations before discovering the likes of Pharrell and Frank Ocean. His mission statement for the new year is to cement himself as a leading name in the new-age RnB scene.
