IsGwan is gearing up to release his debut EP via Bad Parrot. Have an exclusive listen to first single ‘All That You Want’ below.
Since bursting onto the Naarm scene in 2021 with his charged-up take on UKG, the DJ and producer has been turning heads on both sides of the globe; dropping a lethal ec2a dubplate, going viral with his bumping edit of M-Beat & General Levy’s ‘Incredible’, and finding fans in Interplanetary Criminal, Sammy Virji and DJ Boring along the way. Now, the Aussie powerhouse is back with his debut EP on UK label Bad Parrot, keeping the fire stoked with a handful of storming original transmissions.
On the lead single, ‘All That You Want’ – landing tomorrow (31st January) – IsGwan takes a rare detour from the club and into more melodic territory, tempering the wobbly energy of UKG and breakbeat with billowing pads, airy atmospheres and a hooky, pop-styled vocal.
“I wrote the track in early/mid 2024,” IsGwan explained. “I had been listening to a lot more melodic dance music such as Caribou, Dusky, Denham Audio and Four Tet and was keen to bring a bit more musicality into my tracks. Most of my tracks so far have been more club-focused which I love, but with this tune and the rest of the EP I tried to create tracks that hold up in the club while still being good to listen to no matter the context.”
“I was also keen to try to break out of the typical ABAB (intro-drop-breakdown-drop) structure of dance music and have a bit more development of parts throughout,” he added. “I guess I tried to draw from classical music structures where there are recurring motifs which are presented then experimented and developed throughout the duration.”
‘All That You Want’ is out 31st January via Bad Parrot. Have an exclusive listen to the single below.
