Brighton indie pop risers Canned Pineapple have unleashed new single ‘Elvis’.
The band are a potent live force, and they’ll support Skinner on an upcoming UK tour; looking slightly further ahead, Canned Pineapple will hit London’s Sebright Arms on March 21st – and it’ll be a special occasion.
The launch party for new EP ‘Big Break’, the material is a self-conscious look at life in a band in 2025. A tongue-in-cheek look at the “rollercoaster” existence of Canned Pineapple, it matches fun in-jokes to some potent observations.
Take new song ‘Elvis’. An answer song of sorts to the Elvis Costello classic ‘Alison’, it looks at the central relationship through another lens – of course, it helps that the band have an Elvis Costello look-a-like in their ranks.
A brisk guitar pop nugget that paces along to that infectious chorus, ‘Elvis’ is an immediately infectious number dominated by their impish energy.
The band comment…
‘Elvis’ was written as a sort of sequel to one of our collective favourite songs ‘Alison’ by Elvis Costello; a song about Costello running into an ex-lover and having a new husband. We thought it was funny the idea of Seán being Alison’s new husband as sometimes he gets comments about looking like Costello with the glasses and suit y’know. Maybe Alison is only married to Seán because she never got over Costello. Poor Seán but… Who could blame her!
Tune in now.
