Titled ‘ISLAND TIES’, Nicholas Daley’s AW25 collection is a heartfelt celebration of the designer’s rich culture and identity. Inspired by his transatlantic roots, Daley’s AW25 collection reflects a deeply soulful tie to both Jamaica and Scotland. As with each new collection Daley continues to weave the thread of his own identity and personal history throughout.
A deeply nostalgic offering, ‘ISLAND TIES’ draws a link between Jamaica and Britain, utilising a new iteration of the brand’s official Nicholas Daley Check in the form of the Night Tartan, which maintains the red, gold and green threads pulled from the Jamaican flag. Within this collection the check appears in soft mohair and rich lambswool, delivering both a streetwear inspired and more luxurious side to the pattern. The mohair pieces retain influences from classic streetwear, with wide leg pleated trousers, boxy shirts and an oversized mac. In lambswool, the Night Tartan is elevated, enveloping the wearer in bomber jackets, wrapped kilts and thick scarves.
Strong tailoring calls back to Daley’s days on Savile Row, the sharp pleats and clean cuts are met with boxy layering and oversized silhouettes to modernise and diversify looks, allowing for a broader intermingling of cultures.
Elsewhere, the Jamaican hibiscus flower meets the Scottish thistle for a new Nicholas Daley insignia stamped on classic rugby shirts alongside iconography from The Reggae Klub spread across casual streetwear pieces like t-shirts, hoodies and caps – an ode to his parents’ roots on the Edinburgh reggae scene. A photo taken by the designer’s parents in the 1980s inspired the Musical Youth tee as Daley continues to champion Black British cultural identity through his work.
‘ISLAND TIES’ also features a collaboration with Lyle & Scott, the Scottish brand celebrating its 150th year. Through this collaboration Daley delivers a custom wool tartan in the classic Lyle & Scott colourway on knitted vests, collared jumpers, beanies and scarves.
Japanese label Flower Mountain expands Daley’s cultural palette with a shoe collaboration. Pulling technical aspects from Flower Mountain the shoe is water-repellent and robust, featuring a signature Nicholas Daley tartan insole and antique brass detailing for each individual shoe, with a custom cotton herringbone tape lace system for comfort and security.
