Big Thief drummer James Krivchenia is to release a new album through seminal UK electronic label Planet Mu.
A key part of the influential American indie-folk group, James Krivchenia has maintained a regular bout of extra-curricular activities. His solo catalogue is a world away from his day job – the pervasive passion for rhythm remains, yet the probing electronics sits in its own realm.
New album ‘Performing Belief’ is out on May 2nd, and it will be released through UK label Planet Mu.
Patching together ideas shot through with synths, drum machines and other samples, the record was then built up alongside contributions from electric bassist and fellow Angeleno Sam Wilkes (Wilkes/Gendel) and double bassist/multi-instrumentalist from Krivchenia’s native Chicago, Joshua Abrams (Natural Information Society).
Available to pre-order now, ‘Probably Wizards’ finds James Krivchenia blending crunchy percussive aspects with an elastic bassline, the song seeming to expand and contract with uncanny preconception.
Tune in now.
