Forum Birmingham is set to reopen fully following a licence review by Birmingham City Council and West Midlands Police.
The venue shared the news on social media earlier this week (Wednesday, 27th November), writing: “Following the conclusion of the licence review process with Birmingham City Council, we’re pleased to return to normal operations with immediate effect.
“The welfare of everyone attending Forum Birmingham is at the centre of everything we do and we appreciate the constructive engagement of West Midlands Police and the licensing authority to build on the range of measures we employ, as appropriate to each event.
“We ask that all our patrons join us in minimising the risk of harm from drugs by respecting our policies and enjoying themselves safely.”
The 3,500-capacity nightclub had its licence temporarily suspended last month following a death on the premises. A 22-year-old was taken ill at a DnB Allstars Halloween 360 party on 25th October and later died in hospital. West Midlands Police has since launched an investigation into the death, which is believed to be drug-related.
Following a license hearing, councillors and West Midlands Police have now given the green light for the venue to reopen under the condition that it adheres to a number of police measures. As Birmingham Live reports, these include regular patrols of the venue during events, the use of drugs detection dogs at events deemed medium-high or high risk, external queue management monitoring, and regular training of staff in relation to licensing responsibilities and drug awareness.
Ahead of the hearing, the venue was reportedly permitted to run four “low-risk events” throughout November, under the condition that staff received drug awareness training. Forum will reopen fully this weekend with Piano Republik and Amapiano Lituation’s first indoor festival. Other upcoming bookings at the venue include Sub Focus, Serum and Dillinja.
