Meet the unsung heroes of New York’s house music history

Jacob Alon has shares new song ‘Liquid Gold 25’ – tune in now.
The Scottish artist left a deep impression across two beautiful songs, last year’s wonderful ‘Fairy In A Bottle’ and the breathlessly honest follow-up ‘Confession’.
Out now, ‘Liquid Gold 25’ comes as Jacob Alon completes a UK tour with a Celtic Connections show in Glasgow, and the song has been a part of their live set for some time now.
Containing a different energy, the slight dynamic shift creates a contrast with the ruthlessly self-deprecating lyrics, which depict the shallowness of dating, and sex that can often feel transactional.
Working with real gentleness and empathy, Jacob slowly peels apart those monotonous hook-ups, finding instead a place of emptiness.
Jacob comments…
Someone described this song to me as anti-romantic. It was written after a series of particularly degrading Grindr hookups which left me feeling worthless and empty.
To me, it’s about the tormenting cycles of self-love and loathing, deleting, redownloading… The self-harming practice of chasing after something that you know will hurt you… Of my need to dissociate and retreat from the present moment through hedonism and into fantasy… Holding my breath until it stops hurting… Of seeking connection in a place of such superficial desire and objectification… Seeking validation through sex and how that ultimately leads to a deep loneliness.
I don’t wanna slag it off too much, because sometimes it’s great, like. But sometimes my thirst for escapism leads me into very dodgy situations.
And yet I keep coming back for more. Looking to find a different outcome.
The video was directed by fellow Scot, Lewis Baillie – a beautiful depiction of revery.
