Alt-rap non-conformist JPEGMAFIA will release a brand new ‘DIRECTORS CUT’ of his acclaimed 2024 album, ‘I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU’.
Unveiled last year, the Brooklyn-born artist’s fifth studio album was conceived by Peggy alongside contributions from Denzel Curry, Vince Staples and Buzzy Lee. Typically confrontational, mangled and furious, CLASH awarded the original an 8/10, affirming the singularity of Peggy’s voice on a darkly-comic project.
“In a time when genre lines and sub-culture definitions are barely visible, JPEGMAFIA puts the whole damn lot in a blender. Moving from chirruping electronics that recall SOPHIE’s work through to crushing mosh pit igniting guitar riffs, it’s a disorienting assault on the senses that is prickish, at times gleefully offensive, but always riveting.”
The album’s enhanced version features twelve new tracks. The first part of a two-disc special sees the inclusion of songs from the album’s original sessions, with the second comprised of bonus tracks that fit the project’s broader sonic universe.
With the ‘Director’s Cut’ reveal comes new single ‘PROTECT THE CROSS’, a potent, playful garage rock experiment recalling Rage Against The Machine’s screamed diatribes against contemporary America ‘PROTECT THE CROSS’ comes with a brand new video directed by Logan Fields. Of the visual, JPEGMAFIA declares it “the most American thing I’ve done since the military.”
