Rising songwriter Uwade has revealed plans for her new album ‘Florilegium’.
The Nigerian-born, North Carolina-raised musician seems to have been everywhere these past few years – collaborating with Fleet Foxes, some high-profile tour supports have seen her open for the likes of Jamila Woods, Sylvan Esso, The Strokes and more.
Those names give an indication of the breadth in Uwade’s work – growing up listening to highlife jams in her parent’s car, she’s also spent time as an indie stan, an R&B fiend, and beyond.
New album ‘Florilegium’ brings those threads (and more) together in one space. Out on April 25th, it’s spearheaded by her gorgeous voice, and Uwade’s literary flair – she studied Classics at Columbia and Oxford University, right here in the UK.
Worth comparing to Arlo Parks in the subtlety of her touch, Uwade has just revealed floral new single ‘Call It A Draw’.
A delicate character study, her approach to the song speaks to the broader practises within her work as a whole. Uwade comments…
“‘Call It A Draw’ started with a drum loop, a chord progression, and a feeling of restlessness. The creation process was pure, playful, and visceral, relying less on structure and more on improvisation. This approach was really freeing and reflects the sense of release that I feel is central to the project as a whole.”
Tune in now.
