Kendrick Lamar took to the stage at last night’s (9th February) Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show, making history as the first solo rapper to headline the annual event.
Introduced by Samuel L. Jackson playing the part of Uncle Sam, the recent Grammy-winner kicked off his much-hyped performance with a clip of the unreleased track single ‘Bodies’ before moving onto ‘squabble up’ from his 2024 album ‘GNX.’
Also making its way into his set at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, which housed around 65,000 fans for the show, were favourites such as ‘Euphoria’, ‘Luther’ and ‘All the Stars,’ the latter two performed with SZA.
He teased the beginning of infamous Drake diss track ‘Not Like Us’, before cutting it off. “I want to play their favourite song… but you know they love to sue,” he said. Last week, Lamar took home five Grammy awards including Record of The Year and Song Of The Year for ‘Not Like Us.
Towards the end of Lamar’s performance, one of the 400-strong crew and dancers and models revealed a Palestinian flag with the words “Sudan” and “Gaza” written on it. They ran across the field before being escorted off stage. DJ-producer Mustard also made an appearance for closing track ‘TV Off’.

Lamar first debuted at the Halftime Show in 2022, as a guest in Dr. Dre’s all-star performance, sharing the stage with Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, and 50 Cent.
Meanwhile, the Halftime Show has featured many stars over the years, including Prince, Beyoncé, The Weeknd and Rihanna, who performed during the break in 2023’s showdown between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs. In 2024, Kaskade stepped in at last year’s Super Bowl as its in-game DJ, replacing Tiësto, who had to withdraw at the last minute due to a “family emergency.”
